The Indian defense ministry has signed a contract worth over Rs 19,000 crore with Hindustan Shipyard to build five fleet support ships. These ships will enhance the strategic reach and mobility of India’s combat fleet and can also be used for evacuation and humanitarian assistance operations. The first ship is expected to be delivered in four years, with one ship being delivered each year thereafter.
