Blooded in combat, two of the women commandos have been awarded out-of-turn promotions for killing two Maoists in a gunfight. Starting out as a unit of 16, the Danteshwari ‘Ladake’ are now 97-strong. All of them willing to take a bullet to save a comrade in uniform or to protect their people. Earlier, they would accompany security forces on anti-Naxalite operations. Now, they run missions on their own.
