J&K runners shine at Kangra Heritage Marathon

JAMMU, Mar 12: Jammu and Kashmir runners performed remarkably well in the Kangra Heritage Marathon. Jammu and Kashmir runners’ endurance and skill were on full display at the Marathon.
In the difficult terrain of Kangra, which boasted extreme elevation gains and breathtaking landscapes including the ancient Baglamukhi Temple, the 8th-century Rock cut Masroor Temples, and the revered Brajeshwari Mata Temple, the initiative, which aimed to unite ultra runners and hone their abilities for ultra-distance races, made its mark.
Many runners from Jammu dominated the podiums across various categories. Notably, in the 100k category, Samvit Sharma clinched the top position with an impressive finishing time of 11 hours, 16 minutes and 50 seconds. In the female category, Tina Sahi secured the second position, closely followed by Shaheeda Parveen, who finished third with timings of 18 hours, 28 minutes, and 17 seconds and 19 hours, 6 minutes, and 38 seconds respectively.
In the 75k race, Mukul Manhas showcased his endurance prowess by securing the third position with a chip time of 10 hours, 41 minutes, and 47 seconds. In the female category of the same race, Shilpa Chaku Handoo claimed the second position, completing the challenging course in 12 hours, 40 minutes, and 17 seconds. In the 50k category, Sudhir Anand came first, crossing the finish line with a time of 5 hours, 9 minutes and 30 seconds.
In addition to the stellar performance by podium winners, several other notable athletes from Jammu showcased their prowess across various categories. Among the participants in the challenging 100km race were Satbir Singh, Ronit Verma, Sahil Sharma, and Vivek Magotra. Sahil Saini competed in the 75 km category, while Sukhpal Singh and Vishal Kapoor participated in the 50km race.
Dr Deepak Tikoo, Viveksheel Rana, and Sonika Choudhary demonstrated their grit and determination in the 50km, 25km, and 5km categories respectively. Their participation added depth to the event, further highlighting the growing enthusiasm and talent in the realm of long- distance running from the Jammu region.
