The two appointments were approved by the PM-led selection committee at a meeting on Thursday afternoon, attended by home minister Amit Shah and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as the other two members. Chowdhury put up a dissent note raising questions over the procedure for appointment of the two EC members, calling it a “mere formality” as he was given a shortlist of six candidates “just 10 minutes before the meeting”.
