BANDIPORA, Feb 23: District Magistrate (DM) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, today chaired a virtual meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee to review the measures taken to curb drug abuse and related illegal activities in the district.
During the meeting, the DM called for strict and consistent enforcement by all concerned departments and stressed the need for greater coordination to effectively tackle the drug menace.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar, presented a detailed account of recent initiatives undertaken by the police, including detentions under the PIT NDPS Act, action in identified hotspots, and registration of new cases.
Officials from the Excise Department reported on the eradication of poppy cultivation and wild cannabis, regular naka operations and inspections.
The DM directed the department to furnish details of religious sermons delivered as part of awareness efforts and to further strengthen community-based sensitization initiatives.
The Drug Control Department shared updates on inspections carried out, installation of CCTV cameras and computerized billing systems at medical establishments, issuance of notices, suspension of licences, and monitoring of courier services.
