JAMMU, Mar 10: The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, in collaboration with GHRT, organized a landmark conference themed “Closing the Digital Divide: Women in the Age of AI”.
The highlight of the programme was the honouring of 30 visionary women and 17 guest awardees from Jammu and Kashmir, representing diverse sectors including education, entrepreneurship, social work, healthcare, technology, arts, and public service. These distinguished women were honoured for their outstanding contributions to the society and for breaking barriers in their respective fields.
The programme was graced by eminent dignitaries including Chief Guest, Ravinder Raina, National Executive Member BJP, former MLA Nowshera and former State president BJP J&K, the guests of honour, Arjun Singh Raju, former, MLA Ramban, Khurshied Ahmed, MLA Mahore, and Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range; Prof.Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu and H. R. Rahman, Chairman and CEO of Global Human Rights Trust. They applauded the efforts of the Centre for Women’s Studies and GHRT in creating a platform that recognizes women leaders while addressing the pressing issue of digital inequity.
The programme was presided over by Prof. Savita Nayyar, who on behalf of the University and Centre for Women’s Studies congratulated all on International Women’s Day and welcomed the guests and participants.
In the second half, the conference featured thought-provoking sessions on digital access, ethical AI, women-led innovation, and strategies to ensure equitable participation in emerging technologies. The Speakers and Panelists stressed the urgency of collaborative efforts among academia, civil society, and Government bodies to close the digital divide.
The event was conducted by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, and Dr. Disha Sharma, both faculty members of the Centre for Women’s Studies and Junaid Raja from GHRT.
The organising team of the GHRT included Dr. H. R. Rehman (Chairman GHRT International), Dr. Narinder Kumar (Director) Dr. Ifra Nasir (Chief Secretary Legal Affairs), Paramjeet Singh (Chief Secretary GHRT). The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Ifra Nasir.
