KISHTWAR, Mar 11: A mysterious fire last night gutted Municipal Council (MC) office Kishtwar where vital records were destroyed along with one floor of a neighbouring residential house.
However, there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the fire incident.
As per reports, last night, locals spotted flames coming out of the MC office and spreading towards the house of Mohd Aslam Gilkar, son of late Gh Mohd Gilkar near Islamia Faridia Institute.
Over this the locals immediately called the Fire and Emergency team, Police and NGOs who responded and controlled the fire from spreading.
It took several hours to douse the flames but by then whole MC office and one floor of house of Mohd Aslam Gilkar and Arif Hussain along with household items were gutted.
Sharing details in this regard, In-charge Fire Station Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed said: “At around 11.56 pm they received a call and responding swiftly reached the spot but by then whole office building was in flames. Even then with the coordinated efforts of all we were able to control the fire.”
Meanwhile, officials of MC Kishtwar said that they were assessing losses but claimed heavy loss to vital records and other material kept inside the gutted office.
