Nasir, Arya efforts go in vain as MP scripts big win

JAMMU, Jan 11: Promising all-rounder Lone Nasir Muzaffar and opening batter Arya Thakur scored superb half-centuries but could not save Jammu and Kashmir from defeat against Madhya Pradesh in the ongoing U-25 CK Nayudu Trophy at MPCA Ground-1, Nimkheda, today.
Resuming from 22/0, J&K despite riding on brilliant half-centuries by Nasir and Arya could only manage to score 262 runs to lose the match by a big margin of 101 runs. Nasir, who scored 59 runs in the first innings and took 8 wickets in the match, once again showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up 79 runs off 135 balls, studded with 10 fours and one six, while Arya contributed 63 runs off 82 balls with 10 fours and one six. Shubham Singh Pundir (34), Dhruv Singh Parmar (29) and Kawal Preet Singh (20) were the other contributors.
For Madhya Pradesh, Ishan Afridi and Kamal Tripathi bagged 3 wickets each, while Ritesh Shakya, Ritwik Diwan and Rishabh Chouhan claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, in the first innings, Madhya Pradesh rode on splendid centuries by Sumit Kushwah (176) and Sagar Solanki (101) and superb 87 runs by first innings centurion Rishabh Chouhan to reach 394/3 before declaring their innings.
For J&K, Lone Nasir Muzaffar who had taken a 6-wicket haul in the first innings again bagged 2 wickets, while Mujtaba Yousuf had claimed one wicket.
