KATHUA: A skill development workshop was organised by the Department of Home Science of Govt. Degree College, Kathua on Processing and Value Addition of Fruits and Vegetables on Saturday in collaboration with FST Division, SKUAST, Kashmir.
Prof. Vishav Deepika, HoD (Home Science) formally welcomed the Chief Guest of the workshop, Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, Principal, GDC Kathua and experts from FST Division of SKUAST- Kashmir Dr. Afsah Iqbal Nahvi, Dr. Quarazah Akeemu Amin. An interactive presentation on Entrepreneurship Development by Processing and Value Addition of Fruits and vegetables, and its importance in raising our economy was given by Dr. Afsah Iqbal Nahvi Associate Professor Division of FST, SKUAST-K. Dr. Quarazah Akemmu Amin, Assistant Professor, FST Division, SKUAST-Kpresented another talk on scope,constraints and future of baking industry in India. After the presentations, a hands-on demonstration cum training session was crried out by Dr. Afsah, Dr. Quarazah and Waseem Qazi in which they demonstrated about processing of fruits and vegetables for value additionby making Pickels and Jams in the Home Science Lab.
Dr. Ruchi Thakur, Lecturerof Home Science co-coordinated the workshop. Kusum Lata and Veena (Teaching Assistants from Home Sc. Deptt.) also assisted the team from SKUAST-K during the hands-on training session. Prof. Neha Mahajan, HOD Biotechnology & Kaurab Singh, Asst. Professor of Biotechnology & Coordinator, Food Technology Skill Lab were also instrumental in the successful conduct of this workshop. Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma stated that such programmes have fruitful outcomes which will go a long way in enhancing skills of students and canguide students about alternate career options. The workshop was also attended by College faculty including Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Prof. Amita Dua, Dr. Suraya Partap Singh, Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Amrik Singh, Prof. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Kamal Deep Singh, Dr. Shamsher Singh, Prof. Iesha & Dr. Sanjeev Kumar.
