KATHUA: To commemorate 75 years of Indian Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav), Govt. Degree College (Boys) Kathua organised an online lecture on “National Landslide Susceptibility Mapping (NLSM) in Jammu and Kashmir” on Friday. Prof. RajKiran Sharma, Officiating Principal Govt. Degree College Kathua was the Chief Guest of the event while Dr. Vinod Kumar, Director, GSI, Jammu, UT of J&K & Ladakh was the resource person.
The programme started with the welcome address byDr. Mateen Hafiz, Head, Department of Geology, who outlined the purpose and structure of the event.
Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma in her address emphasized on the mitigation of landslide hazards in the Himalayan region. She stressed that young generations should know how to be resilient to variousgeohazards resulting from adverse natural or human made conditions.
Resource person, Dr. Vinod Kumarin his deliberations made the students aware about the landslides, their types and mapping in Jammu and Kashmir. He appraised about his research particularly in context of landslide and impact assessment in the Himalayan region.
The event was concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Jasvinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of BBA. More than 100 students participated in the interactive session of the event.
