Crackdown on drug smugglers; 14 arrested across Valley

SRINAGAR: Continuing its war against drugs and intensifying action against drug dealings, Police in a series of actions across Kashmir Valley has arrested 14 drug peddlers. Huge cache of contraband substances and cash Rs 2.70 lakh has been recovered from their possession.
In Pulwama, earlier three drug peddlers were arrested from Gudoora Bridge Newa and on their disclosure instant raid was conducted at residence of one notorious drug peddler, identified as Junaid Khurshid @Junni Katta, son of Khurshid Ahmad Dangroo, resident of Zasoo Tahab. During raid, brown sugar, huge quantity of poppy straw and cash amounting to Rs 2,70,471-sale proceeds of drugs were also recovered. Apart from aforesaid notorious drug peddler, 9 other drug addicts were also arrested in a series of actions in the vicinity. In this regard, FIR No. 305/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pulwama and further investigation started.
Meanwhile, officers at a checkpoint established on Tahab Road, intercepted an individual moving in suspicious circumstances. During search, 1,200 ml of Codeine were recovered from his possession. He was identified as Bashir Ahmad, son of Ab Ahad Ganai, resident of Tahab, Pulwama. Accordingly, he was arrested and shifted to police station, where he remained under custody. In this regard, FIR No 308/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pulwama and further investigation started. In another instance, acting on specific information about drug dealings, a party from Police Station Litter conducted a raid at village Naina Batapora area of Pulwama. During search, 1 Kg Charas was seized from house of one Khurshid Ahmad Koka, son of Gh Mohd Koka, resident of Naina Batapora. Accordingly, FIR No 112/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation started.
In Ganderbal, acting swiftly upon specific information, a police team led by SHO Kangan under supervision of SDPO Kangan Yasir Qadri-JKPS apprehended a drug peddler and recovered 140 gm Charas and 6 Kg Bhang-patri from his possession. He was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bajard, son of Fazal ur Rehman, resident of Laman, Wangath. Accordingly, FIR No. 132/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Kangan and further investigation started.
In Budgam, officers at a checkpoint established near Hardpanzoo Crossing intercepted 2 persons roaming in suspicious conditions. During search, officers were able to recover 220 gm Charas from their possession. The accused, identified as Firdous Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Larbal Dassan & Nisar Ahmad Bhat, resident of Harda Latina, were arrested on the spot and FIR No. 156/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Beerwah.
